Best AWS Books to Learn

10 minutes read

The Cloud, and Cloud development, in particular, Amazon Web Services (AWS Cloud)) seems destined to dominate the computer landscape for generations to come. While many IT engineers and developers put all their marbles so to speak on a single programming language such as Python, Java, PHP, Golang or SQL, programming languages seem to come and go as often as the wind changes.

AWS web services, on the cloud, on the other hand, seem to be destined to dominate the IT profession for many years.

What is Amazon AWS

Amazon Web Services is a broad collection of global cloud-based products including computer calculation, storage, databases, analytics, networking, mobile, developer tools, management tools, as well as security and enterprise applications.

In short, if all those services are like the various organs of the body, AWS cloud is like the whole internet body that brings them all together.

There are thousands of jobs riding on AWS certification. Even if your AWS certification does not apply to your present AWS cloud job, chances are more than likely your next job will.

To become AWS certified in Solution Architect Certification Training, Migrating Application to AWS Certification Training, or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer you will need to pass a number of AWS certified exams to demonstrate your competence.

And before you even begin, you'll need to understand the basics of cloud computing fundamentals. Cloud fundamental books are for beginners, and when purchasing these books for beginners, you should be reminded that purchasing an eBook on the subject is often much cheaper. An eBook on cloud fundamentals is often half of what it costs to buy even a softcover book on the same subject.

For those seriously intending to pass an AWS certification course, they will typically start their study on the cloud with an AWS cookbook. A cookbook is in essence, the college level and above textbook to educate you on the aspect of AWS you are interested in.

However, cookbooks are not enough. To obtain certification, you'll need to pass an examination and meet the minimum experience levels for each of the certifications you wish to take up. There are 12 in all.

What you will need is a practitioner book, or should we more than one because one practitioner book never seems to be enough.

Each practitioner's book claims to be the ultimate guide on the subject, but in our experience, each guide is different than the next. Some may have strengths in one area and weaknesses in another.

Initially, whether you are studying to be a Certified Solutions Architect, a Certified Developer or a Certified SysOps Administrator, you will need to as a minimum pass the associate exam. So you will need a practitioner book that helps you prepare for the associate exam. Again, we have found that consistently, more than one AWS practice exam book is invaluable. What kind of jobs should you aim for after you pass your exam. Most associate jobs in the AWS cloud center around being an AWS developer, DevOps Engineer, AWS Cloud Architect, AWS SysOps Administrator, and Cloud Software Engineer.

Becoming an AWS developer is often the easiest path for beginners in the cloud to obtain a job, while second place might go to Devops Engineers.

What is Amazon Web Services used for?

This one is the easiest to answer. From computer ops to storage, to development and security, AWS does it all. There are actually nearly 200 computer functions that AWS supports. There are literally thousands upon thousands of jobs that rely on these skills, and these are long-term jobs that will be here for decades.

But of course, technical training in the way of face-to-face classes often costs several thousands of dollars. Rather than going into debt, why not try the textbook approach first. Particularly since the right textbook course often comes with hundreds of how-to videos.

If you can successfully pass an AWS associate-level certification test first, it makes it so much easier to find an IT job than doing just the lowest level tasks to break into the business.

So AWS knowledge is extremely valuable and with the right combination of AWS books, you can learn a lot that even a degree can't help you with. Many IT managers care more about ability than about degrees.

What big companies use AWS?

A recent survey of the top AWS users included Netflix, Twitched, LinkedIn, Facebook, Turner Broadcasting, BBC, Baidu, ESPN. Adobe and Twitter. Netflix alone spends nearly $19 million dollars per year on AWS services.
