How to Play Risk?

15 minutes read

Risk is a popular strategy board game where players aim to conquer territories and ultimately dominate the world. The game is played on a map divided into territories, with each player starting with a set number of armies. Players take turns to place their armies on the board and attack territories held by other players. To attack, players roll dice to determine the outcome of battles. The goal is to eliminate other players and control as many territories as possible. Players can also form alliances, trade cards, and strategize to outwit their opponents. The game continues until one player dominates the entire world map or achieves the goal set at the beginning of the game.

What is the goal of Risk?

The goal of the board game Risk is to conquer the world by occupying territories, eliminating opponents, and completing mission objectives. Players must use strategy and tactics to expand their territories, defend against attacks, and ultimately eliminate all other players to win the game.

What is the difference between Risk and Risk Legacy?

Risk is a classic board game in which players compete to conquer territories and ultimately achieve world domination. Risk Legacy is a variant of the original game that adds a unique twist by introducing persistent gameplay elements. In Risk Legacy, the board and rules can be permanently altered by players as they play, resulting in a unique gaming experience that evolves over time. Additionally, Risk Legacy introduces the concept of factions and a campaign-style gameplay, where the outcome of one game can affect future games in the same campaign.

How to defend your territories in Risk?

  • Build up your armies in strategic locations to deter attacks from opponents
  • Fortify your borders with additional troops to make it harder for enemies to invade
  • Keep an eye on your opponents' movements and be prepared to counter any aggressive actions they may take
  • Use diplomacy and alliances to create barriers against potential threats
  • Use cards strategically to reinforce your territories or launch surprise attacks on opponents
  • Continuously reinforce and expand your territories to increase your overall strength and defend against enemy attacks.

How to play Risk with friends?

  1. Setup the game: Choose a place to play that has a large enough table to accommodate the game board and all the pieces. Set up the game board and separate all the pieces into the appropriate categories (armies, cards, etc.).
  2. Choose a color and collect your armies: Each player chooses a color and takes all the armies of that color. The number of armies each player starts with depends on the number of players in the game.
  3. Roll to determine turn order: Each player rolls the dice, and the player with the highest roll goes first. Play then proceeds clockwise around the table.
  4. Place your initial armies: Each player takes turns placing their armies on the game board, starting with the player who rolled the highest. Players can only place one army per territory per turn until all territories are occupied.
  5. Begin your turn: Each player's turn consists of three phases: reinforcement, attack, and fortify.
  • Reinforcement phase: At the beginning of your turn, you receive a number of armies based on the number of territories and continents you control. You can also trade in sets of cards for additional armies.
  • Attack phase: You can attack territories adjacent to your own. Roll the dice to determine the outcome of each attack. You can continue attacking as long as you have armies and want to continue.
  • Fortify phase: After you have finished attacking, you can move armies from one of your territories to an adjacent territory. This is important for defending your territories and setting up future attacks.
  1. Conquer territories: The objective of the game is to conquer territories and eliminate other players from the game. The last player standing wins the game.
  2. End the game: The game ends when one player has conquered all territories or when the players agree to end the game.
  3. Enjoy and have fun: Risk is a strategic game that can be intense and competitive, so remember to have fun and enjoy playing with your friends.
